Whether you’re moving into a new house or apartment or you’ve already been living in the same place for years, you should get it ready for the semester as you prepare for law school.
What follows are five ways to get your house or apartment law school friendly.
Here's How:
- Set up a study spot.
Whether it’s a desk or simply a large table, make sure you have a place where you can study, spread out, and keep handy all the materials you’ll need for studying. One caveat: keep your law books out of the bedroom; you should have at least one place where the stress of law school is strictly prohibited from entering.
- Get bookshelves.
Whether they are wall-mounted or simply floor models, get some bookshelves to keep your books out of the way when you’re not using them. This may not seem too necessary during your first semester, but law books multiply fast over three years.
- Stock up on non-perishables.
Go out and buy things like toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent, anything that you can stock up on now and that will last you through your first semester to save you some shopping trips and hassle when you simply don’t need it.
- Get some perishables.
You need food, and you certainly don’t want to be ordering in or going out to eat all the time, so be sure you have gone grocery shopping before classes begin. Of course you’ll have to buy fresh food throughout the semester, but canned and frozen goods are great to have around for quick fixes.
- Finish in-progress home improvement projects or put them aside.
If you have an on-going project in your living space, either finish it over the summer before law school or clean it up to a point where it won’t annoy you all throughout the school year. Don’t start your law school career with built-in stress that you have to look at every day at home--at least get it out of sight.
