Professor Thio Cancels on NYU Law

From Michelle Fabio, About.com GuideJuly 30, 2009

One of the hottest stories in law school news these days is the resignation of Singaporean law professor Li-ann Thio, who was supposed to teach "Human Rights in Asia" at NYU Law School this fall.

Thio has spoken out rather aggressively against gay rights in Singapore, and for this reason, her appointment was heavily protested within the NYU community. Although the school has stood behind her (not her views), Thio canceled, citing low enrollment figures in her course, a general unwelcoming attitude at NYU, and even a fear of personal safety.

I have written my take on this story over at Open Salon, so do go have a look and let me know what you think: Professor Thio Cancels on NYU Law: Why You Should Care.
